• HOW DOES IT WORK?
Laser hair removal is a specialty professional treatment at Laser Solutions. It is a non-invasive procedure used to permanently reduce unwanted hair. Laser Solutions uses a laser device, a machine with an intense beam of light energy, transformed into heat energy to disable hair in the active growth cycle. By heating and damaging the hair follicle, the hairs begin to grow back lighter and finer. In many cases, the treatment destroys the hair follicle and permanently removes the hair. There are three cycles of hair growth and each hair is at a different stage in the growth cycle at a given time. Therefore, it will take a series of treatments to ensure that all hairs are treated and disabled in the active growth cycle.
• HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
For best results, Laser Solutions recommends a series of 6 treatments because the laser affects the hairs in the active growth phase only. During your consultation, the approximate number or treatments will be discussed with your Laser Solutions Skin Care Professional as each treatment is customized to your hair color, texture and the area being treated.
• HOW LONG DOES EACH TREATMENT TAKE?
Treatment time varies depending on the area treated. A general guide is below.
Bikini : 30-45 minutes
Underarm : 15 minutes
Lip/Chin : 15-20 minutes
Hairline : 15 minutes
Ab Sculpting : 30 minutes
Arms : 45 minutes-1 hour
Full Legs : 2 hours
Lower Legs : 45 minutes-1 hour
Full Back : 1 hour 30 minutes
• HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT BETWEEN TREATMENTS?
It is best to have your first three laser facial treatments performed every 3 weeks. Thereafter, it is best to have your laser facial treatments performed every 3-4 weeks. Laser body treatments should be performed every 5 weeks. Your Laser Solutions Skin Care Professional will customize a treatment program for you.
• HOW EFFECTIVE ARE THE TREATMENTS?
For men, laser hair removal is about 90% effective after 6 treatments. For women, laser hair removal is about 80% effective after 6 treatments.
• ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?
Once the hair that is destroyed, it will not return. However, our bodies are always able to produce more hair and therefore with changes in our bodies we can grow new hairs.
• HOW DOES LASER DIFFER FROM ELECTROLYSIS?
A laser treatment can treat a larger area at one time.
• DOES IT HURT? WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL LIKE?
The sensation is often described as a hot rubber band snapping the skin. For client comfort, Laser Solutions can offer you a topical numbing cream to reduce the sensation.
• HOW DO I APPLY THE TOPICAL NUMBING CREAM, AND HOW MUCH DO I USE?
About 1 hour prior to your treatment, Laser Solutions recommends you apply a thin white layer of numbing cream. You may wish to use a plastic food wrap to enhance penetration of the numbing cream. To ensure the numbing cream does not “numb” unwanted body parts, cover with clothing or for delicate areas a tampon or condom may be used. Wash your hands carefully to avoid having numbing cream “numb” your hands as well.
• WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THIS TREATMENT?
The ideal laser treatment candidate is a person interested in removing unwanted hair. Common treatment areas include the facial areas, shoulders, back, underarms, abdomen, buttocks, bikini area, legs and arms and fingers and toes.
• DOES THIS TREATMENT WORK FOR ALL SKIN TYPES AND HAIR COLOR?
Lasers designed for hair removal targets the pigment in the hair, the melanin in the hair. As a result, this treatment works best on pale skin with dark, coarse hair. Light hair colors like gray, blonde and light red may not respond as well to treatments because the pigment is not as concentrated.
• ARE THERE ANY MEDICAL OR LIFESTYLE CONTRADICTIONS?
Every professional treatment at Laser Solutions begins with a client consultation to determine what professional treatment best suits your personal goals. During this meeting, your Laser Solutions Skin Care Professional will review medical and lifestyle contraindications to ensure the professional treatments you receive are tailored to you and your goals.
• WHAT ABOUT TANNING? HOW LONG BEFORE TREATMENTS CAN I TAN?
Ideally, you can tan 4 weeks prior to your first treatment. You will not want to tan or be exposed to the sun during your treatment. Post treatment, you will want to wait to tan and be exposed to the sun for 4-6 weeks.
• HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?
Laser Solutions recommends shaving 1-3 days prior to treatment to ensure an outline of hair growth is slightly visible. The treatment area should be shaved as closely as possible so that the laser can target the energy towards the hair follicle. It is very important that you not wax or remove the hair from the root 4-6 weeks prior to treatment and during treatment as the hair must be available for the laser.
• WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER THE TREATMENT?
Laser Solutions recommends applying IS Clinical Hydra Cool on the treatment to soothe the skin for the first few days. 2-3.5 weeks after treatment, you should experience visible shedding of the treated hair. The hair may appear to grow back, however; the natural process is for the hair to shed in this fashion. You can help this process by exfoliating with a loofah in the shower. It is normal to experience little dots that appear “stuck” in your skin, also known as “peppershots.” Like the hair, the peppershots will also be shed or exfoliated away leaving you with smoother, softer skin with less hair. Once the shedding ends, you will find your skin is hair free for a couple of weeks before a new cycle of hair appears. Once you have a new cycle of hair, it is important to have your next treatment and repeat the process.
• ARE THERE ANY WARNING SIGNS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR?
As with any treatment, there are possible risks, side effects and complications. Side effects are rare and are often only temporary. Should you have any questions or concerns, Laser Solutions is committed to you and your care, contact us at anytime, we are here dedicated to serving you.
It is good to be aware of some common experiences associated with laser treatments. Itching during the treatment has been experienced by some clients, as is redness and swelling around the follicle opening for about 3 days post treatment. Some clients have experienced tingling of a feeling of numbness that is common. It is rare to have a scab formation on an ingrown hair. Bruising, pigment change and infection are also a few examples of rare warning signs, but are possible.
• HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Treatment costs vary by hair color, texture and the area being treated. Your Laser Solutions Skin Care Professional will help you determine the best treatment program and will work with you to determine your treatment costs.
